Well, it’s here. The Jets begin the 18/19 season tonight in St. Louis. Connor Hellebuyck will lead the Jets out of the tunnel to face Jake Allen and the Blues.
The Jets will face a bolstered St. Louis squad, they added Tyler Bozak and Ryan O’Rielly in the offseason.
This will obviously be the first of four times these teams will meet up, in what is always a tough divisional matchup. We will get to see the NHL debut of Kristian Vesalainen, it will be interesting to watch what he can do when it counts. He will get to play in a sheltered role alongside Roslovic and Ehlers. Which I am hoping will be a dynamite offensive trio, who will play limited to no defensive role. Another thing to note will be the second power play unit. As I assume the first power play unit will remain identical to last season. Will it be a young guns PP2? Ehlers, Roslo, Vesa featuring Little and Myers (ugh)? Something different? That’ll be something to look for.
As for the defensive pairings, well. I’ll just say free Niku. Even though we’ve seen it a lot with Byfuglien being able to carry anchors, especially Ben Chiarot. Niku is ready, he’s gonna make mistakes, but Chiarot makes just as many and has a very limited offensive presence.
