Game 5: Jets Debut Alternate Jersey

The much anticipated debut of the new “Aviator” jersey will occur tonight, a jersey that was the centre of much criticism during the last few days of the offseason. A “simple” design, that some say was lacking any creativity. Some would even say it needed some red. Others really like it.

That’s enough jersey talk, let’s get down to the important stuff, hockey. The Jets host a high flying Carolina Hurricanes team, still undefeated in regulation, and boasting a 4 game win streak, on the backs of a high paced, high scoring, fun hockey team. Averaging 42 shots and 4.4 goals per game, while allowing 3 goals per game. This style of play is pretty similar to what the Jets “should” like to do. Score. And score a lot. I expect this game to be high paced chaos. 9-8 anyone?

The Jets will look to improve on their 8 penalty, 3-0 loss to Nashville Thursday. Laurent Brossoit will get his first start as a Winnipeg Jet, an interesting choice, considering how many shots he may face. Curtis McElhinney or Petr Mrazek will get the call for the ‘Canes.

One change from Thursday’s lineup, Dmitry Kulikov will draw in for Dustin Byfuglien, who is Day-to-day with an upper-body injury. The Jets will look to the TLC line to once again slow down a very fast opposition. What the Jets need to do tonight, is take advantage of home ice and roll all four lines, we are still waiting for Roslo and Vesa to get significant minutes with Perreault.

Of course, the other thing to watch for will be how the Jets’ defence will hold up, especially with Dustin Byfuglien out. Kulikov will slot in beside Chiarot, Maurice says they might change it up depending on the state of the game. I have stated in pretty much everything I’ve written, they are seriously lacking. Facing a team that averages over 40 shots a game, yes it’s a small sample, but I don’t see that changing tonight with what will be on the blue line for the home team. Like I said, high paced chaos is to be expected. Poor Laurent Brossoit.

Oh. And don’t take penalties.

Late news just before publish, Marko Dano has been place on waivers.
